Drainage Detention Systems Guidebook for Basin Owners

This Detention Basin Guidebook was developed by the Southern Indiana Stormwater Advisory Committee for home owners associations and businesses with general procedures to assist with the inspection and maintenance of typical drainage detention systems.  Drainage detention systems, like detention ponds and retention basins, require routine maintenance in order to function properly.  When these systems don’t operate effectively, they can cause serious problems, including flooding, property damage, threat to public safety, and adverse effects to the environment.

This Guidebook contains a list of common problems associated with detention systems, as well as appropriate solutions.  Also contained in the Guidebook are quick-reference fact sheets and an example inspection form to assist owners with inspecting their detention systems.
